Sustainability in Construction – New Regulations and Green Standards

Sustainability remains a critical focus in UK construction, with growing regulatory pressure to reduce environmental impact.  Recent updates to environmental regulations highlight a strengthened commitment to greener practices within the construction sector.

The government has introduced the Future Homes Standard and The Environment Bill, both of which aim to:

  • Reduce Carbon Emissions: By 2035, the UK construction industry will be required to ensure that new homes are zero-carbon ready, featuring energy-efficient designs, low-carbon heating systems, and better insulation.
  • Waste Reduction: The new regulations stress the need for reducing waste during construction, with an emphasis on recycling and reusing materials. These measures encourage stricter material use controls and the adoption of sustainable building practices.
  • BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method): An increasing number of projects are being required to meet BREEAM certification, a leading sustainability rating system that measures how well a building performs in terms of energy, water usage, and environmental impact.

At KpH Deconstruction Services, sustainability is at the heart of our operations. We continuously adapt our practices to comply with these evolving regulations, ensuring that our work contributes to the development of a greener, more sustainable built environment. From deconstruction to site preparation, we focus on minimizing waste, improving resource efficiency, and supporting the UK’s commitment to a sustainable future.
